Registration for the Kokuyo Design Award 2024 Applications are now open. The Kokuyo Design Award is an international product design competition that aims to co-create with talented designers and support their activities.

Since its inception, outstanding product designs have been selected from entries that reflect current social conditions, and award-winning works have been transformed into commercial products through co-creation between KOKUYO developers and award winners. By providing the world with designs that breathe new life into the tools we regularly use in our daily lives and at work as reliable products, KOKUYO aims to support the future activities of designers while bringing you a tomorrow you can't wait for.

More than 20 years have passed since the award's founding, and more than 20 products have been created to date. It continues to evolve as a project that conveys value that is relevant to the times, and not simply as something to be selected and awarded.

Theme

• The Kokuyo Design Award 2024, with the theme "primitive," seeks product designs that will remain essential in the future, returning to the fundamental quality of our familiar tools used in work, learning, and life.

Prizes

• Grand Prix (one winner): ¥2,000,000 (approximately US$14,200)
• Merit Award (three winners): ¥500,000 (approximately US$3,500) per winner
• New Generation Award (maximum of ten winners): ¥30,000 (approximately US$$ 210) per winner

Eligibility

• Corporations, organisations, individuals and groups are all welcome, regardless of age, gender, professional experience or nationality.
• Only designs that have never been exhibited publicly (in Japan or other countries) are eligible for entry.

Judging Criteria

• The clarity of the idea
• The idea highlights social issues.
• The potential of design to become a product.
