Who we are:
Global Fund for Children (GFC) partners to build a world where all children and young people enjoy equal resources and opportunities in society and live free from violence, discrimination and exploitation. To do this, the GFC invests in innovative local organisations, helping them to deepen their impact and build their capacity for social change. Together, the GFC and its partners promote the rights of children and young people facing poverty and injustice and equip them with the tools and skills to reach their full potential. Since 1997, the Global Fund for Children has invested US$ 51 million in more than 900 organisations, reaching 11 million children and young people around the world. What is the Youth Leadership Council?
The GFC Youth Leadership Council is commissioned to articulate and promote the needs of young peers and serve as an advisor to the Global Fund for Children. With an active Youth Leadership Council, the GFC seeks to improve its understanding of youth involvement and the issues that affect young people. We seek more inclusive decision-making processes, with young people involved at every stage of the process. Youth Leadership Council members will not only be involved with the GFC as councillors, but will also have access to networking, capacity building and other career enhancement opportunities. Youth Leadership Council members are advocates of the GFC's mission, embracing our Core Values of Courage, Passion, Partnership, Learning, Inclusion and Excellence in their daily work.
This is a voluntary role that includes a stipend and other recognition criteria established by the GFC in consultation with the Youth Leadership Council from time to time, but this does not imply an employment relationship with the GFC.
The main responsibilities of the Youth Leadership Council members include:
- To help the GFC identify important youth issues in different regions
- Becoming spokespeople for the GFC's campaigns, thus strengthening the GFC's efforts to meaningfully include young people in its strategy
- Helping to amplify the GFC's main initiatives on social media; publishing blogs/articles/videos relevant to the GFC's work
- Designing and contributing to the development of messages and content for young people
- Contribute to the selection process for scholarships and/or awards
- Helping to shape the GFC's donation priorities
- Representing the GFC at public events
- Contribute to fundraising efforts to support community organisations
- Strengthening GFC networks and reaching out to potential partner organisations
- Initial commitment of 2 years which can be renewed by mutual agreement. However, this is flexible as it is a voluntary role and other commitments or unforeseen situations may prevent someone from completing the initial 2-year commitment
