Applications are now open for the Keeling Curve Prize 2021. Every year, they track down and fund the best climate solutions the world has to offer. Their goal is to double the Keeling Curve. To do this, they are looking for projects with a proven track record of getting greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere.
Deadline: 10 February 2021
They developed five categories, each addressing a specific sector of climate innovation:
- Capture and utilisation: Projects in this category are advancing technological and nature-based strategies to capture and/or utilise heat-trapping gases from the air or oceans.
- Energy: Projects in this category decarbonise energy, support zero-carbon energy innovations and lead the way in improving the supply, distribution and access of low- or zero-emission energy systems around the world.
- Finance: Projects in this category are making financial and economic mechanisms work to reduce greenhouse gases and/or reverse emissions.
- Social and Cultural Paths: Projects in this category are changing the way people consider, understand and act on human impacts on planet Earth. They are trying to answer the question: what does it take, socially and culturally, to develop beyond fossil fuels?
- Transport and mobility: The projects that apply in this category are reimagining and reinventing all kinds of vehicles, fuels and mobility options for people and products. These projects will tackle the carbon footprint of the vehicles themselves and the routes travelled.
Prize
- They award US$ 25,000 to two projects in each category every year.
Eligibility
- They receive entries for active projects or programmes (not untested ideas or hypotheses) from anywhere in the world.
- Awards are only given for ongoing work (not as a reward for unimplemented ideas or past work).
- They will not award prizes to the same candidates two years in a row. However, if you are not awarded a prize, you can apply next year and in any subsequent year.
- You can submit to several categories, but you will only be eligible to win in one category during a given year.
Application
Incomplete applications or applications that do not attempt to quantify their emissions reductions or financial scalability will not be considered.
