Applications to join the ITU Secretary-General's Youth Advisory Council . The Youth Advisory Council of the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a dynamic and innovative initiative that empowers young people to shape the future of global connectivity.
This advisory council focuses on action and results, offering practical advice to the ITU Secretary-General. The council will provide diverse perspectives from young people and concrete recommendations for improving global cooperation in reducing the digital divide, "connecting the unconnected" and aligning ITU programmes with the Sustainable Development Goals.

At the centre of this initiative is the goal of giving young people a direct voice within the ITU and bringing new, innovative and inclusive perspectives to the table. Beginning a two-year term in February 2024, members of the inaugural Youth Advisory Board will be selected by the ITU Secretary-General from a global pool of exceptional candidates.
The aim of this council is:
- To provide young people with perspectives on the future vision of the ITU and the role the ITU can play in promoting equitable, accessible, universal, innovative and secure connectivity.
- Contributing ideas and recommendations on how to reduce the digital divide and harness technology for the greater good of society; responsibilities may include researching innovative solutions, providing analyses, collaborating with youth networks and communities, and making recommendations to ensure that technology is accessible.
- Provide feedback to young people on ITU's work programmes, management approaches and human resources development.
- Support ITU initiatives and promote ITU's work among young people around the world.
- Sharing knowledge on the potential of information and communication technologies, emerging technologies and the ITU's role in bridging existing gaps. Consult youth networks to get feedback on ideas for connectivity, emerging technologies including AI, space economy, e-waste and circular economy, leveraging digital technologies for monitoring, mitigating and adapting to climate change, among other priority areas for ITU.
This Youth Advisory Board will be made up of 12 exceptional young people from 6 ITU regions (Africa, the Americas, Arab states, Asia and the Pacific, Commonwealth of Independent States and Europe) (2 per region) who delve into a wide range of telecommunications-related topics, from artificial intelligence and quantum technology to the Internet of Things, cyber security, space sustainability, the future of network technology and much more. They will bring a wealth of knowledge about technology, regulatory issues and political questions in the ICT sector.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old;
- Demonstrated achievements that show impact and results in promoting equitable, accessible, universal, innovative and secure connectivity;
- He has led and/or contributed to STEM-related research, publications and journals;
- Member, founder or leader of a movement, network, organisation or programme led by STEM-related young people;
- Knowledge of existing international ICT technology, policies and regulations;
- Expertise in STEM areas with a focus on emerging technologies, including AI, space economy, infrastructure and connectivity, cybersecurity, e-waste and circular economy, leveraging digital technologies for monitoring, mitigating and adapting to climate change, among other priority areas for ITU;
- Proven track record in defence of youth and technology and the Sustainable Development Goals;
- Proven success in STEM-related projects/research/article/publication/or recognition received/or paper presented at a conference;
- Ability to put aside organisational and national affiliations and serve as an individual.
