Global Citizenship Learning Programme: Building Tomorrow's Changemakers

The Global Citizenship Learning Programme is a transformative journey for university students aged 18-25 who are driven by the ideals of global citizenship. This programme provides the knowledge, skills and experience needed to lead change initiatives, large and small, in your community and beyond.

What to expect as a participant

As a participant in the Global Citizenship Learning Programme, you can anticipate a dynamic learning experience with a wide range of activities. Here's what's in store for you:

  1. Cultural immersion: Immerse yourself in different cultures and learn to collaborate across boundaries of place and identity.
  2. Collaboration: Work alongside fellow students from all over the world in countries such as China, India, Chile, Ghana, Germany and the United States.
  3. Global Topics: Expand your knowledge of global issues, especially those linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  4. Impact projects: Co-creating and developing impact projects with fellows and partners to drive change initiatives, both locally and internationally.
  5. Skills Development: Gain valuable skills in intercultural communication, teamwork, design thinking, project management, storytelling, podcasting, ethical leadership and systems thinking.
  6. Global Convention: On the basis of active participation, you may be invited to a fully sponsored annual face-to-face convention in one of the participating countries.
  7. Lifetime membership: Upon successful completion of the programme, you become a valued member of our global community of Senior Melton Fellows, made up of more than 600 change agents.

Applications for the 2024 edition of the Global Citizenship Learning Programme are now open. The global application deadline is 15 November 2023, while applicants from Temuco, Chile, have an extended deadline of 1 December 2023.

Who can apply?

The Global Citizenship Apprenticeship Programme is open to university students aged between 18 and 25 who are passionate about impacting their local community. To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled at one of our partner universities, which include institutions in Bangalore, India; Greater Accra, Ghana; New Orleans, United States; Jena, Germany; Temuco, Chile; and Hangzhou, China.

In the Global Citizenship Learning Programme, we do not discriminate on the basis of colour, gender, nationality, religion, economic background, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. We actively encourage applications from motivated students from historically underrepresented minorities (URM) and people from low-income backgrounds.

Application process

Here's what to expect during the application and selection process:

  • Online enrolment: Submit your application using the online form by the deadline.
  • Local interviews: Our university partners will conduct interviews for the strongest candidates.
  • Centre for Global Assessment: The best candidates will take part in a Global Virtual Assessment Centre, evaluating teamwork, problem-solving and discussions on global challenges.
  • Final Interviews: A timed video interview will be reviewed by our Global Selection Team.
  • Final selection: The most suitable participants will be chosen, and the programme officially begins on 1 April 2024.
