Applications for the Hansen Leadership Institute 2024 are now open. The Hansen Leadership Institute (HLI) is an exciting international programme that brings together and trains future leaders from around the world to promote world peace and international cooperation.
The Hansen Leadership Institute is an exciting international programme funded by a generous donation from the Fred J. Hansen Foundation. Fred J. Hansen's vision was to create a more peaceful world through international co-operation. He wanted people from other nations to visit the United States to learn more about its culture, economy and government. In turn, he wanted the people of the United States to be better informed about the wider world and its peoples and customs. He knew that it would take principled, passionate and tireless leadership to achieve this vision.

The Hansen Leadership Institute is guided by this vision of world peace brought about by greater mutual understanding and ethical, effective leadership. They seek this through generational change. They believe that future peace requires the coming together of young leaders from regions of ongoing conflict in the world.
HLI seeks to bring more hope to a seemingly hopeless world. They don't believe that ever-present and ongoing violence and war are inevitable or acceptable. Hansen Fellows believe that they can radically change the world for the better. HLI exists to help them do so.
Benefits
The Hansen Summer Institute is fully funded by the Fred J. Hansen Foundation. This includes international airfares, room and board, and all programme costs. If selected, the only cost to participants will be the fees incurred in obtaining a passport and spending money.
The next programme dates are from 1st to 23rd July 2024. Please note that, if selected, you will travel to the United States a few days before the start date. ALL BAGS MUST TAKE PART IN THE ENTIRE PROGRAMME. No participant may arrive late or leave early.

- Students must be between 20 and 25 years old at the start of the programme.
- Must have demonstrated leadership potential outside the classroom in the community, nation or region.
- Ask an academic advisor to check the applicant's English proficiency in writing
- Have a valid international passport with a US visa, if required, at the time of starting the programme
- Preference will be given to those who have never visited the United States before
What if I've been to the United States before?
Preference will be given to students who have never been to the United States before, but all qualified students are encouraged to apply.
STUDENTS FROM THE USA: (Students from any university in the United States)
- Upper division undergraduate with 2 years of college/university or graduate student with a professional interest in international relations, diplomacy, international economic development or related fields.
- Students must be between 20 and 25 years old at the start of the programme.
- Must have demonstrated leadership potential outside the classroom in the community, nation or region.
Successful candidates must demonstrate leadership potential by working outside the classroom in community service, other public service or in a non-governmental organisation. A recommendation form from such a group or organisation is required.
