Are you passionate about climate justice and digital rights? If so, we invite you to apply for the Green Web Fellowship today! ⚡

The Green Web Foundation is pleased to announce its call for the next group of fellows. We are looking for five dedicated individuals in the fields of digital rights and climate justice who are eager to bridge the gap between these two essential movements. By joining the Green Web Fellowship, you can embark on a six-month paid part-time journey that includes peer learning and the opportunity to develop a community-based project that contributes to digital rights and climate justice.

Important dates:

  • Application deadline: 31 October 2023
  • Start of scholarship: 07 December 2023, with a duration of six months

Who we're looking for:

A successful scholar must:

  1. Be a professional active in the digital rights and/or climate justice movements, enthusiastic about exploring ways in which these movements can collaborate and support each other.
  2. Have a well-defined project that serves the community you are part of and actively connects the digital rights and climate justice movements in a practical way.
  3. Act to create a fairer and more sustainable future, promote collaborative spaces within their communities and embrace self-reflection in their practice.
  4. Being affiliated to an organisation or working independently.

We recognise that the impacts of climate change disproportionately affect the global south, including people of colour, indigenous and traditional communities, local groups and specific ethno-racial populations. We encourage people who identify themselves as Most Affected People and Areas (MAPA) to apply and promote projects developed by or in close collaboration with affected communities. Proposals can vary in terms of maturity and readiness, so we invite you to assess the feasibility of your proposal or suggest ways to make it a reality.

Why this communion?

The Green Web Fellowship aims to bridge the gap between the digital rights and climate justice movements. Whether you're a technologist, researcher, activist or policymaker, if you're interested in the intersection of these fields and see the potential in a project, this fellowship is tailor-made for you!

This programme is based on the insights and opportunities identified by the Green Screen coalition and the commissioned landscape analysis of this intersection.

Previous successful projects include a climate litigator improving his open data practices for more effective legal activism in Latin America, a web developer gaining climate justice expertise to improve the sustainability of a large open source project, and a digital policy maker creating resources for digital security and reliable climate information for climate justice activists in the global south.

What to expect:

Fellows will dedicate half a day a week to working on their fellowship project, participating in weekly collaborative cohort calls and learning from their colleagues and other professionals in the field. They will also share their experiences through monthly blog posts and present their projects in mid-term and final presentations to a wider audience.
