The Fund to Boost the Third Sector in Cape Verde: Training and Financing Opportunities
The African NGO Fund represents a crucial opportunity to strengthen and boost the work of non-governmental organisations in Cape Verde. In a context of constantly evolving social and economic development, the role of NGOs is becoming increasingly important in promoting community well-being, defending human rights and supporting sustainability initiatives. By offering training and funding, this fund aims to empower these organisations, enabling them to increase their impact and contribute even more to the archipelago's progress.
The first fundamental pillar of this fund is training. Recognising the need to improve the capacities of Cape Verdean NGOs, the fund will allocate resources to workshops, seminars and mentoring programmes. The topics covered will be diverse and wide-ranging, covering essential areas such as project management, fundraising, communication and marketing, monitoring and evaluation, and organisational governance. These training programmes will be designed to meet the specific needs of local NGOs, ensuring that they acquire the necessary tools to operate efficiently and sustainably. The training will be delivered by experts with proven experience in the field, ensuring the quality and relevance of the content.
The second pillar of the fund is the financing. Each NGO selected through a transparent and competitive process will be able to apply for financial support of up to $5,000 USD. This amount can be used to fund a variety of projects, from the implementation of concrete programmes in the areas of health, education, community development, environmental protection or human rights, to the acquisition of equipment and infrastructure, or the strengthening of organisational capacity. Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate a significant impact on the community, that present a long-term sustainability plan, and that are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The implementation of this fund will generate multiple benefits for Cape Verde. Firstly, it will strengthen the capacity of NGOs, enabling them to provide higher quality services and reach a greater number of beneficiaries. Secondly, it will foster collaboration and knowledge sharing between NGOs, promoting a more dynamic and effective working environment. Thirdly, it will contribute to the country's sustainable development by supporting initiatives that combat poverty, promote gender equality, protect the environment and strengthen democracy.
To ensure the success of this initiative, rigorous monitoring and evaluation measures will be implemented. Clear and measurable performance indicators will be established, and NGOs will be obliged to report regularly on the progress of their projects. In addition, independent audits will be carried out to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of funds. In the long term, the aim is to create an NGO ecosystem that is more robust, resilient and able to respond to the challenges and opportunities facing the country. We believe that by investing in NGOs, we are investing in the future of Cape Verde.
