The African Union Commission (AUC), with the support of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), is pleased to launch the second call for grants for civic tech innovations in Africa to catalyse and scale innovative civic tech solutions that harness the power of technology to drive citizen-led transformative action across the African continent.
The grant process is managed by continental partners, the Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) and Ushahidi. The African Union Civic Technology Fund (AUCTF) presents an opportunity for dynamic African initiatives to catalyse and scale their innovative civic tech solutions. Successful beneficiaries of the grant call will receive financial support to scale and accelerate their civic technology projects and initiatives. Applications for funding must be aligned with the African Union's Agenda 2063 - Africa's blueprint and masterplan to fulfil its goal of inclusive and sustainable development.

In particular, the Fund responds to the need to boost meaningful citizen participation in governance spaces through the innovative use of data and digital technologies to tackle governance and development challenges, while recognising the central importance of Africa's youth in shaping the continent's future.

Information on financing
- 15,000 euros to 15 African beneficiaries over 12 months to support replicable and scalable civic technologies and citizen-led innovations across the African continent.

Who can apply?
- You are invited to sign up if:
- These are African organisations or initiatives registered (or domiciled) in any member state of the African Union.
- Have a project committed to leveraging digital technology for civic engagement, transparency and community-orientated development.
- They are led by and address the challenges faced by women, young people and marginalised groups in Africa.
Ineligible
- You are ineligible if:
- A previous beneficiary of the AUCTF.
- An international or non-African entity (including a subsidiary of a global organisation).
- An unregistered entity.
- A corporation or government agency.
- A blacklisted entity or individual.
