PHOTO COMPETITION: SKILLS IN ACTION UNESCO -UNEVOC 2025

The promotion of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Cape Verde plays a crucial role in the country's sustainable development. By creating valuable skills adapted to the needs of the labour market, TVET empowers young people and adults, boosting the economy and social cohesion. The "PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION: SKILLS IN ACTION UNESCO -UNEVOC 2025" aims precisely to celebrate and document this process, offering a platform for artistic expression and visual communication of the advances and challenges faced in this vital field.

The competition, promoted by UNESCO-UNEVOC - the main UNESCO organisation focused on EFTP - aims to encourage reflection on the importance of technical and professional skills in everyday life, the Cape Verdean economy and the country's future. Photography, with its ability to capture moments and emotions, becomes the ideal tool to convey the dynamics and richness of EFTP. The photographs submitted should portray various aspects of the EFTP, from theoretical and practical training in schools and training centres, the development of specific skills, the application of these skills in the labour market, entrepreneurship, innovation and the impact that all this has on local communities.

The Application Process and Categories

To participate, candidates must submit colour or black and white photographs of a quality that allows them to be printed at a considerable size. Each candidate may submit up to three photographs, accompanied by a descriptive caption of no more than 150 words per photograph. The caption should elucidate the context of the photograph, the skills at work and the impact visualised. It is crucial that the photographs are original and representative of the reality of EFTP in Cape Verde.

The competition will be structured into categories, with the aim of encompassing the diversity of EFTP in the country. Proposed categories could include "Technicians in Action", which celebrates the work of qualified professionals in various sectors; "Learning on the Ground", which documents work practice and the transition to the labour market; "Entrepreneurship and Innovation", which explores successful projects and initiatives; and "Community Impact", which aims to illustrate the effect of EFTP on improving quality of life. Other categories may be added to reflect local specificities and sector challenges.

The Expected Impact and Benefits of Participation

This photography competition aims not only to promote the EFTP through art, but also to sensitise society to its importance. The selected photographs will be presented at public exhibitions in Cape Verde, making it easier to publicise the participants' work and raise the profile of the EFTP. The selected images may also be used by UNESCO-UNEVOC and its partners in publications, websites and communication materials, extending the reach of the message.

Participants will also have the opportunity to develop their visual communication and photography skills, as well as gain recognition for their work. The competition will reward the best photographs in each category with prizes that could include photographic equipment, technical improvement workshops and the chance to take part in EFTP-related events. The competition will act as a platform for building a powerful visual narrative about the importance of EFTP for Cape Verde, inspiring other young people to embark on this journey and positively impacting the country's future.
