The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Residency Programme is a one-year research training position designed to give you hands-on experience with artificial intelligence research while working on Facebook AI.
Application deadline: 31st January 2021
The programme will pair you with an AI Researcher and Engineer who will guide your project. With the team, you will choose a research problem of mutual interest and then create new deep learning techniques to solve it. We also encourage collaborations beyond the assigned mentors. Research will be communicated to the academic community by submitting work to major academic venues (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ACL, EMNLP, etc.), as well as open source releases and/or product impact.
The AI Residency experience is designed to launch a career in the field. It is a full-time programme that cannot be undertaken in conjunction with university study or a full-time job.
FAIR encourages applications from people who have a strong technical background and are passionate about AI research. Previous experience in machine learning is certainly a strength, but we look for people from diverse backgrounds, including areas ostensibly unrelated to machine learning, such as (but not limited to) maths, physics, finance, economics, linguistics, computational social sciences, neuroscience and bioinformatics.
Responsibilities
- Learn how to carry out research in deep learning and AI.
- Understand previous work and existing literature.
- Work with mentors to identify problems of interest and develop new AI techniques.
- Translate ideas into practical code (in structures such as PyTorch).
- Write research results in the form of an academic paper or open source projects.
Important dates
- Registration is open for the 2021 cohort and will close on 31 January at 5pm Pacific time.
- New residents start every August.
