Ember is calling for applications from community mental health initiatives that work in low- and middle-income countries and would like to partner with them. Successful initiatives will be offered a 12-month partnership with Ember, customised to support and strengthen the sustainability and growth of the organisation based on its needs. There will also be an opportunity for selected organisations to be considered for investment in Ember after the 12-month partnership.
Ember supports and funds excellent community mental health initiatives in under-resourced environments so that they can grow and thrive. It is an initiative created in collaboration between the SHM Foundation and the Mental Health Innovation Network. Since 2019, Ember has supported more than 30 community mental health initiatives on their growth journeys.Within Ember, they are a team of people with diverse professional and personal backgrounds who are passionate about mental health. Their team's skills and expertise include implementation, evaluation, social anthropology, research, business, technology, education, design, psychology, social work and communication. They are a global team, located in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
Benefits
- Ember offers successful candidates a bursary of £6,000 GBP per year as a contribution to the time dedicated to the process. Their work together will also include efforts to improve their financial position, including strengthening financial strategies, fundraising support, networking opportunities and recommendations to other funders.
EligibilityTo be eligible to apply for the Ember Call Out 2024, candidates must:
- Work in mental health.
- Be based in a low- or middle-income country.
- Have a mental health support programme or project that is already in place, currently operational and has had some impact.
- Get directly involved with communities. Look for initiatives that are close to the communities they serve and deeply rooted in their environments, with local leadership. They are less likely to partner with advocacy organisations, political organisations, government services or think tanks.
- Be locally led. This means that initiatives should be based in low- and middle-income countries, which are created and implemented by local leadership teams, and/or with members of the community they serve.
- Have a team of more than one person. This can include volunteers.
- Have at least one English, Spanish or Arabic speaker on the team.
- No discrimination based on religion, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, race or ability. However, religious organisations can apply.
