About the opportunity: This exciting PhD opportunity, based in the Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries at King's College London, offers a unique chance to delve into the global development of West African music and the role of digital and platform economies. Co-supervised by Professor Roberta Comunian and Dr Eka Ikpe, this project aims to understand how Afro-beat music producers in West Africa contribute to the creation of social, economic and cultural value in national and global markets.

Main research questions: ? What processes and platforms drive creation, distribution and revenue generation for West African music producers? ? How do digital technologies and platform economies shape new social, economic and cultural development in the music industry? ? What role do knowledge, technology and capital play in West Africa's creative economy?

Eligibility criteria: ✔️ African nationals permanently resident in an African country ✔️ Meet the academic requirements for enrolment on a PhD programme at King's College London ✔️ Have or expect to achieve a High Merit or Distinction at Masters level ✔️ Strong interest in music and the creative economy ✔️ Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods

Financing: This award covers full tuition fees, offers an annual bursary and provides one research, training and support grant per year.
