Objective:
The RISE grant challenge aims to fund projects that address gender-based violence (GBV) that occurs within and is linked to environmental and climate-related sectors.
Scope:
In 2024, the RISE grant challenge seeks proposals to prevent, mitigate and respond to GBV and environmental linkages in the midst of the global biodiversity and climate crises. Specific emphasis is placed on addressing GBV in the fisheries sectors. Applications should promote rights-based, gender-sensitive and socially inclusive conservation, climate action and sustainable development.
Eligibility requirements:
- Countries: Projects should be implemented in target countries or centred on global policies.
- Applicants: Open to various organisations, including partnerships and collaborations.
- Thematic Responsiveness: Proposals must be aligned with the objectives of addressing GBV and environmental links.
- Operational capacity: Candidates must demonstrate operational and administrative capacity.
- Language: Proficiency in English or French is required.
- SEAH Policy: Candidates must adhere to the Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH) policies.
- Self-Care and Collective Care: Consideration of self-care and collective care strategies is encouraged.
Application process:
1. Expression of interest phase (10 May to 7 June 2024):

2. Eligibility screening phase (10 to 29 June 2024):
- Initial screening to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria.
3. Invited proposals submission phase (1 to 31 July 2024):
- The shortlisted candidates send detailed proposals via SMApply.
- Submit questions by 15 July 2024.
- Deadline for submitting proposals: 31 July 2024.
4. Technical Evaluation Phase (1 August to 9 October 2024):
- Evaluation and classification of proposals by a Technical Evaluation Committee (TEC).
- Interviews with shortlisted candidates.
- Notification of finalists by 30 September 2024.
5. Due Diligence Phase (30 September to 1 December 2024):
- Due diligence process for the selected finalists.
6. Finalisation of grant winners (1 to 31 December 2024):
- Signing of grant agreements.
Interventions RISE seeks to finance:
- Partnerships between environmental organisations, gender equality organisations, GBV specialists, indigenous peoples or community organisations.
- Survivor-centred and trauma-informed approaches.
- Strategies for involving men and boys in addressing GBV and environmental links.
- Women's economic empowerment activities.
- Institutional learning and innovative arrangements.
- Bridging knowledge gaps and influencing political agendas.
