The #ShareTheMicInCyber (STMIC) fellowship is now accepting applications for its 2025 cohort. This fellowship is a unique opportunity designed for mid-career cybersecurity professionals from diverse backgrounds to conduct independent policy research, tackle critical cybersecurity challenges and explore the human aspects of cybersecurity.

STMIC 2025 fellows will serve for one calendar year, from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025. During this period, Fellows will receive a stipend, have access to mentoring and enjoy professional development and networking opportunities. In addition, Fellows will have the opportunity to take advantage of the New America and #ShareTheMicInCyber platforms to promote their work.

Eligibility and incentives

The scholarship encourages applications from everyone, with a particular focus on underrepresented individuals in the cybersecurity field. This includes, but is not limited to, those who identify as black and/or people of colour, LGBTQIA+, on the gender spectrum or neurodiverse. US citizenship is not a requirement to apply.

Registration is available online via from SurveyMonkey Apply . Candidates should send the following materials:

  • A CV or resume (maximum 3 pages)
  • Two essay answers:
    • A project proposal (1,000 words or less)
    • A personal declaration of interest (500 words)
  • Contact details of a recommender (who will serve as a reference if you are selected for the interview round)
  • Optional work samples (up to three)

Registration timetable

The application period is from 15 August 2024 to 30 September 2024 at 11:59 pm Eastern Time. Applications will be reviewed during the autumn and finalists will be invited for a 30-minute interview with the programme team in early November. Tips for a successful application

  • Take advantage of its unique perspective: highlight what makes his point of view unique and how it can contribute to cyber security and technology policy.
  • Be forward-looking: propose research topics that will remain relevant in the coming years and that may intersect with other significant issues, such as AI, climate change or supply chain security.
  • Prepare yourself thoroughly: The two essay questions are a crucial part of your application. Make sure you follow the guidelines provided and take the time to draft thoughtful answers.
