The invitation to submit proposals for the Transitional Justice Initiative in Africa 2024 The call for proposals is now open. The African Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF) is pleased to announce this call for project proposals from civil society organizations, community groups, and victim-led groups working to promote truth, justice, and reconciliation in emerging conflict countries across Africa.

This invitation is part of a joint initiative of the European Union and the African Union, the Initiative for Transitional Justice in Africa (ITJA), a project launched in October 2023 and focused on implementing innovative transitional justice initiatives that are guided by the principles and provisions of the Transitional Justice Policy Framework for Africa (AUTJP) and its accompanying roadmap.

• A registered civil society organization or community group operating in any of the priority African countries in this call for proposals.
• Proven experience in transitional justice, human rights, or related fields. Having ongoing projects/initiatives that address specific needs within the scope of the competition.
• It must have at least three (3) employees (including the Founder/Director).
• You must have a functional (corporate) bank account in the country of operation.
• It must have a clearly defined operational structure – accounting processes and procedures, management structure, and proof of monthly/quarterly/semi-annual or annual financial accounting.
• They must be known to or integrated into communities that have suffered atrocities or human rights violations and have strong links and networks with victims, survivors, and the community in which they operate.
• You should already be working on human rights and transitional justice issues in the communities identified in the target countries.

Application

Interested organizations should submit a detailed proposal aligned with the outlined focus areas, completing the application form and budget. Ensure the form is fully completed, detailing the institutional context, project overview, objectives, methodology, activities, expected results, and a clear sustainability plan, etc.
