The world is facing a food crisis on an unprecedented scale, made even worse by climate change, conflict and a global pandemic. In response to these ongoing challenges, the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP) continues to serve as a valuable instrument to financially support the most vulnerable countries and communities.

Knowing that the needs of small farmers are urgent, GAFSP is launching the second part of the Seventh Call for Proposals dedicated to Producers' Organisation-led projects.

Call for Proposals
GAFSP's Seventh Call for Proposals is part of the global response to the current global food security crisis. It is fully aligned with the Global Alliance for Food Security (GAFS). It contributes to the mobilisation of funds to overcome the current crisis and enable the long-term transformation of global agri-food systems towards greater resilience and sustainability.

The current call consists of two parts: the first part is dedicated to country-led proposals (CO-Call), launched in September 2022, and the second is dedicated to proposals led by producer organisations (PO-Call).

GAFSP's main funding expectations for OP-led projects
The projects led by PO are demand-driven and owned by PO.

The projects led by PO address the needs of small farmers expressed through their POs and for which solutions are designed through a bottom-up approach.

OP-led projects are implemented directly by the OP, in partnership with a Supervisory Entity (SE) selected by the OP itself.

Eligibility Criteria
For the GAFSP, the definition of POs includes national and sub-national POs structured as producer associations, unions, federations, cooperatives or umbrella organisations (including umbrella organisations or federations of POs) with the following characteristics:

  • It is a local organisation formed by a group of small producers to undertake agricultural, food and nutritional activities, including storage, processing and marketing.
  • Its members include farmers, pastoralists, artisanal fishermen, forestry groups, landless people and/or indigenous peoples.
  • It is owned by its members: The members of the PO participate in the governance of the PO.Its profits and other benefits are shared among its members; and
  • It is a registered legal entity.

Benefits
25 million to be allocated in grant resources to eligible POs. Additional donor commitments may become available up to the grant award date (scheduled for July 2023), which could increase the total amount of the award. GAFSP seeks to allocate funds to several projects with allocations of up to 3 million dollars per project.

Categories
The first part, the Expression of Interest (EOI), includes a package of supporting documents to be submitted no later than 24 February 2023.

The second part is the complete model proposal to be submitted by 9 May 2023.
