About the competition
The Student Energy Summit 2023, in partnership with IRENA and Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S), an initiative of Masdar, is pleased to announce the launch of a video competition focussed on the theme of Reimagining the Future with Renewable Energy. Participants are invited to submit a video in one of two categories:
- How are you concretely advancing the transition to a renewable energy future in your community?
- What is your country/region/city/community doing to advance the transition to a renewable energy future?
Prizes
The winner(s) of the video competition:
- Receive fully funded participation in the Student Energy Summit 2023 in Abu Dhabi in November 2023,
- Be invited to participate virtually in a panel at the Youth Hub at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023.
The best videos will be presented at the IRENA Youth Forum 2023, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023 and the Student Energy Summit 2023 and publicised on social media.
Participation criteria
You can take part by sending a video of no more than 60 seconds on the theme of the competition on Twitter or Instagram, using the hashtag #SES2023VideoContest and identifying the Student Energy Summit 2023 (@ses.2023 on Instagram and @ses2023 on Twitter). Submissions must comply with the parameters listed in the eligibility and rules section below.
Eligibility and rules
- The youth video competition will be open for entries between 1 and 31 December 2022. The deadline is 31 December 2022 at 23:59 Abu Dhabi time .
- The winner or winners will be announced by the Student Energy Summit team during the IRENA Youth Forum (13 January 2022) and via SES's social media channels. The number of winners (1-3) will be determined based on the number and quality of entries.
- The competition is open to competitors aged between 18 and 30 from all over the world.
- The video entry must clearly and creatively address the above-mentioned theme in 60 seconds or less.
- The video must be sent by uploading it to the participant's Twitter or Instagram account using the hashtag #SES2023VideoContest and tagging the Student Energy Summit 2023 (@ses.2023 on Instagram and @ses2023 on Twitter). Instagram account settings should be set to "public" for SES 2023 to receive a notification and access the video.
- Entries are limited to one video per individual.
- The video must be in English, or if created in another language it must include English subtitles.
- With full knowledge of cultural aspects around the world, it is not compulsory for the young man to show his face in the video.
- Young people, especially those from low-income countries and living in areas most affected by the digital divide, may not have access to advanced video production technologies. Therefore, there is no specific requirement for the video to be of high quality or resolution.
- Submissions depicting violence, sexism, racism or containing content or images that could be considered abusive, inflammatory, denigrating or disrespectful to any groups, individuals or institutions will be disqualified. Submissions must adhere to the norms of civil discourse and be suitable for a global public audience.
- By entering the youth video competition, participants recognise and guarantee that the video submitted is an original work created exclusively by the participant and that it does not infringe copyright, trademarks and rights of privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity.
- By submitting a video to this competition, participants agree to grant Student Energy and the Student Energy Summit 2023 the right to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entry in any media at any time.
Video selection criteria
A selection committee made up of representatives from the Student Energy Summit 2023, IRENA and Masdar will assess the applications based on the following criteria:
- Relevance to the topic: the video clearly and creatively represents the theme Reimagining the Future with Renewable Energy through positive perspectives on youth.
- Originality and creativity: The content is unique and not derived from other ideas and presents the topic in an original and convincing way.
- Potential spectator impact: the video conveys personal or aspirational thoughts that are inspiring to viewers, especially young people, and that can be applied in practice by other young people.
