About the Award: The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to increase poverty and inequality, further exposing weaknesses in health systems, precarious labour and challenging prospects for young people to access opportunities they desperately need.

The 2020 IMF Youth Fellowship Competition gives young participants the opportunity to become part of global efforts to better advance and join the IMF at the forefront of crisis response. Participants will have first-hand experience of the IMF's Virtual Annual Meetings and will have access to participate in virtual trainings led by IMF experts and media professionals from Politico and others to increase their skills as multimedia storytellers in today's economic environment with a focus on building a better future for young people. At the end of the training, participants will submit a final piece (blog/article or video) and 4 winners will be chosen to take part in an IMF youth panel and their work will be featured on IMF channels.

Eligible countries: Any. Priority will be given to participants from Latin America, the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Eligibility:

  • Age 20 - 32
  • Journalists (affiliated to a media outlet or working as an independent journalist).
  • Content creators (bloggers/vloggers with online platforms).
  • Communication and development professionals.
  • Students.

Selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, expertise and creativity in various communication and/or journalism platforms.
  • Knowledge and expertise in international studies, basic economics and development is a plus.

    It is desirable that you have a degree in communications, journalism, economics, international relations, development or any other field. related.
  • Basic knowledge of English (for the training programme and coverage of Annual Meetings).

Premium amount:

  • Media training and video storytelling by Politico media experts.
  • Participation in the formation of the IMF Youth Fellowship focussed on current global economic issues, including economic growth, inequality, Fintech and climate change.
  • Access to Annual Meeting seminars and events.
  • Participation in a panel discussion with IMF senior management.
  • The winning articles and videos will be presented on IMF.org.

Duration of the Award:

Phase I: The competition will be open to everyone via the entry form on the competition website.

  • 1st September - Notice
  • 24 September - Deadline for entries

Phase II: The selected participants will take part in an intensive training programme during the Annual Meetings

  • 5 October - Announcement of selected participants
  • 12-17 October - Media training and video storytelling; Workshop on current global economic issues, including inclusive growth, inequality, Fintech and climate change; Coverage of Annual Meeting seminars and events.
  • 8th November - Final product submission

Phase III: The four winners will take part in a panel discussion with IMF senior management and will have their entries featured on IMF.org.

  • 30 November - Announcement of winners

Phase IV: Panel discussion with winners of the scholarship competition and presenting their articles/videos on IMF channels
