The Yunus Centre is inviting visionaries and dreamers to enter the Social Fiction Design Contest to share how they want to see the world and the lives of young people in the year 2050 and stand a chance of winning US$ 10,000.

Social Fiction is a creative and imaginative work that relates to the creation of ideas, thoughts or processes that affect the social context. The competition aims to stimulate the imagination of a world we want to live in, a world free from the social and environmental injustices that plague our communities, because it all starts with the imagination.

Geeky Nigeria reports that the Yunus Centre was formed in 2006 as the Yunus Secretariat, when Professor Yunus and the Grameen Bank were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The organisation began with a special focus on social business in order to meet the growing attention.

According to the centre, social fiction thinking, like science fiction, will unleash social innovation that will help create the economy, society and world we want to live in, because imagination can lead to reality.

For those interested, there are no age restrictions or geographical limitations, as everyone from anywhere in the world is welcome to take part.

To apply, interested candidates must write a Social Fiction (in 1000 - 5000 words) that has the potential to take readers on a tour of the fictional world of 2050.

The article should have one or more areas of social and environmental focus in Climate Change, Microcredit, Agriculture, Technology and Innovation, Transport, Literature, Music, Waste, Circular Economy, Tourism, WASH, Employment, Sports, Health and Well-being and so on.

According to the Yunus Centre, the first step in writing Social Fiction is to imagine the life of a young person in the world of 2050. What kind of world do you want to see in the year 2050?

After imagining, identify what kind of social or environmental issues you are addressing in this world you want to create.
