Deadline: 12 August 2024

Nominations are open for the Free Press Awards 2024 . The Free Press Awards recognise journalists and media professionals who have a strong commitment to press freedom and independent reporting. They will honour journalists and media professionals who keep going, no matter what.

Free Press Unlimited wants to honour journalists who risk everything to bring the news, media pioneers who pave the way for equality and justice and those who persevere in the most difficult circumstances. The Free Press Awards will recognise exceptional work in the Breakthrough of the Year and Most Resilient Journalist categories.

  • Revelation of the Year : The Breakthrough Journalist of the Year category recognises talented new journalists who have demonstrated strong performance in terms of news reporting. All nominees demonstrate an exceptional commitment to press freedom and independent coverage and use innovative methods to disseminate this information. The nominees in the Rookie of the Year category demonstrate extraordinary dedication to journalism as a means of holding those in power to account and serving as watchdogs for the public interest from the very beginning of their careers.
  • Most Resilient Journalist This category is presented to a journalist who has shown extraordinary strength of character, courage and perseverance in reporting the news. Nominees for the Most Resilient Journalist have often faced imprisonment, violence and censorship for carrying out their work. They have demonstrated a strong commitment to press freedom and independent reporting and are usually highly regarded journalists who are willing to risk their lives or their freedom to keep the public informed.
