Registration is now open for the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Centre 2025-2026 . The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Centre for Scholars and Writers. Cullman offers fellowships to individuals whose work will benefit directly from access to the research collections in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street. Recognised for the extraordinary breadth of its collections, the Library is one of the world's preeminent resources for study in anthropology, art, geography, history, languages and literature, philosophy, politics, popular culture, psychology, religion, sociology, sports and urban studies. studies.
The Cullman Centre seeks high-quality writing. It aims to promote dynamic communication about literature and scholarship at the highest level - within the Centre, in public forums throughout the Library, and in the published work of fellows. The Centre can award up to five fellowships per year jointly with the American Council of Scientific Societies. Applicants for joint fellowships must submit separate applications to the New York Public Library and the American Council of Scientific Societies.
- A Cullman Centre Fellow receives a stipend of up to US$ 85,000, use of an office with a computer and full access to the Library's physical and electronic resources. Fellows work at the Centre for the duration of their fellowship, which runs from September to May.
- Each fellow gives a lunchtime talk about their work in progress to the other fellows and to a wide range of guests and may be invited to take part in other programmes at the New York Public Library.
Eligibility
- Open to leading academics and writers - academics, independent scholars, journalists, creative writers (novelists, playwrights, poets), translators and visual artists.
- Foreign citizens with a command of English can apply.
- Candidates for the scholarship will need to work primarily in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, and not in other divisions of the Library.
- People seeking funding for research leading directly to a degree are not eligible.
