Deadline: 1st November 2023

Applications are now open for the British Academy Global Innovation Fellowships 2023/2024. The aim of the Global Innovation Fellowships is to provide opportunities for UK-based early and mid-career researchers from across the humanities and social sciences to develop their skills, networks and careers in the creative and cultural, public, private and policy sectors to tackle the barriers to innovative approaches and solutions.

Through the Global Innovation Fellowships, researchers from the SHAPE community will be supported to create new and deeper connections beyond academia, thus enabling the mobilisation and translation of knowledge as well as the development of individual skills. This is a new programme for the British Academy and in this pilot phase they are pleased to offer opportunities for Global Innovation Fellowship award holders to join and be based in the offices of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Areas of interest

Applications can be made in any of the following five areas:

  • Sustainability, Climate and Geopolitics.
  • Technology and International Affairs.
  • Democracy, Conflict and Governance.
  • Global Order and Institutions.
  • Nuclear policy.

Brotherhood

  • The Academy is offering up to three one-year fellowships in Carnegie's US offices (Washington DC or California). They are offered as awards of up to £150,000 for 12 months duration (with a Total Economic Cost of 80%).

Eligibility

  • There are no preconceptions about the award holder's disciplinary background, but the candidate will need to demonstrate a solid understanding of the relevant issues, including the applicable policy landscape and the systemic challenges it faces.
  • Language skills, where relevant, are desirable but not essential.

Application

The Global Innovation Fellowships are expected to start in September 2024. An earlier start date of March or April 2024 may be possible. In this case, the candidate will need to explain how they will plan and manage their relocation on this earlier timescale.
