Since 2016, AstraZeneca, through its Youth Health Programme (YHP), has partnered with One Young World to identify and empower young leaders facing the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in their communities. With its scholarship programme, more than 100 young leaders have joined the One Young World Community and participated in the annual One Young World summit.
We know that the One Young World Summit can open up opportunities, spark ideas, and turn plans into action. We also know that young people often lack opportunities to receive funding and participate in structured development, especially in under-resourced communities and among marginalised groups.
This year, AstraZeneca is going beyond scholarships and awarding a unique YHP Impact Scholarship that provides development opportunities, access to networks, and funding to help the most impactful young healthcare leaders to help them create even more positive change.
This grant is powered by and delivered in partnership with the AstraZeneca Young Health Programme (YHP). The YHP is an essential part of AstraZeneca's sustainability ambition to use its capabilities to make a significant impact where society needs it - health. YHP is a global disease prevention programme with a unique focus on young people aged 10-24 living in vulnerable and resource-poor environments around the world. YHP aims to prevent the most common non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as cancer, type II diabetes, heart and respiratory diseases, by addressing the primary risk factors - tobacco use, harmful alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet and exposure to air pollution.
YHP activities support the realisation of UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.4 - to reduce premature deaths linked to NCDs by a third by 2030.
