The aim of the African Visiting Researcher Fellowship Programme is to provide opportunities for early-career researchers based in Africa to work and develop their ongoing research at the Nordic African Institute. The fellowship offers access to the Institute's library, hosted by Institute researchers, networking opportunities, and other resources that provide a stimulating research environment. Through the programme, the Nordic African Institute aims to contribute to capacity building in the production of knowledge about Africa and to promote and establish relationships with and between the African and Nordic research communities.
VALUE
- The scholarship includes a return airfare (economy class), accommodation, a living allowance of 400 SEK (approximately 40 USD) per day plus a settling-in allowance of 2,500 SEK (approximately 250 USD), and access to a workspace, including a desktop computer, in a shared office at the Institute. Please note that the living allowance will only be granted for the days spent in Uppsala.
- The Institute's library specializes in literature on contemporary Africa and focuses on the Social Sciences. In addition, visiting researchers have access to the Uppsala University Library and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Library.
- Invited researchers have the opportunity to present their research at the Nordic Institute for Africa and to visit other institutions in the Nordic countries.
ELIGIBILITY
- The fellowship program is aimed at early-career researchers based in Africa and committed to Africa-focused research.
- The research topic should fall within the disciplines of Social Sciences and Humanities, with a focus on contemporary Africa.
- Personnel employed full-time by a university or research center based in Africa, enrolled in a doctoral program in the African region, and who do not have access to an international scholarship.
- Postdoctoral researchers (within 5 years or less after completing their doctorate).
