Applications are now open for the BIGSAS-Scholarships 2024 for African women . The Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies, BIGSAS, invites outstanding African scholars based on the continent to join an international community of early career researchers working in the field of African Studies. BIGSAS offers a creative and innovative doctoral training centre based on the inter- and multidisciplinary research environment of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence at the University of Bayreuth.
In 2024, BIGSAS is awarding two scholarships under the Graduate Scholarship Programme (GSSP) offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The scholarship periods start in October 2024 at the earliest (including a German language course from summer 2024, if applicable). Scholarships are awarded for a total period of up to four years.

Eligibility
- Open to leading African academics based on the continent.
- Candidates must have a very good master's degree or equivalent. The most recent master's degree or equivalent must have been obtained within the last six years at the time of appointment by BIGSAS.
- Applicants should not have resided in Germany for more than fifteen months at the time of appointment. Although applications can be submitted in German, English or French, please note that the working language of BIGSAS is English.

- The supervision agreement
- A project proposal of no more than 10 pages that describes the objectives of your dissertation project, as well as a detailed work and timeline. include your name, the page number and the title of the proposal on each page. The proposal should also include a one-page summary of the proposal in English
- A one-page motivation letter in which you explain why you applied to BIGSAS
- An electronic copy of your written and assessed master's thesis or equivalent
- Two letters of recommendation personally signed by the authors (the authors need to be from your academic background and mentioned with title and university/institute)
- A Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing your academic progress and qualifications
- A self-declaration that you have not been accepted for a doctorate at another university or are enrolled at another university or university of applied sciences
- Certificate of completion of secondary education / certificate of entry to higher education
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent certificate including full pages of the transcript of records (e.g. Licence or Maîtrise, a certified copy is requested)
- A master's degree certificate or equivalent, including full pages of the transcript of records (e.g. DEA or DESS, a certified copy is requested)
- A list of academic publications (if available)
