Deadline: 15 July 2024

Applications are now open for the Sir Harry Evans Fellowship in Investigative Journalism 2025 . The Sir Harry Evans Global Fellowship offers an unrivalled opportunity for an exceptional early career journalist: a nine-month fellowship with Durham University and Reuters to undertake an investigative project. The fellow will be mentored by leading Reuters editors, while having access to Durham's academic and research resources and having the opportunity to develop rigorous, fact-based research and reporting skills.

The Fellow will develop the project within a Reuters newsroom in London, New York or Toronto, with additional support from colleagues at the Durham Institute of Advanced Studies. The Fellow will deliver a public seminar at the IAS, sharing their learnings from the fellowship and supporting the understanding of journalism at the University. The first Sir Harry Evans Fellow, Waylon Cunningham, was part of a Reuters investigative team that won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in national reporting.

Benefits

  • The Fellowship has a monthly salary of c.£4,444 per month (equivalent to a pro-rata salary of c.£53,333 per year). In addition, there is a living stipend of £1,250 per month and a one-off payment of £1,800 for travelling and related expenses.
  • Where the successful candidate is an existing employee of a news or media organisation and takes a period of leave to obtain the bursary, Durham University will pay up to a maximum of £12,000 to their current employer to cover temporary staff costs, subject to specific terms and conditions.

  • The Sir Harry Evans Fellowship is a global opportunity and accepts applications from all eligible candidates, regardless of their current location. They encourage applications from members of under-represented groups in journalism.
  • Proposals generated by AI will be disqualified.
