Regarding the project to disseminate Multilateralism from the High-Level Advisory Council on Effective Multilateralism
O secretary-general announced a training from a High-Level Advisory Council (HLAB) on Effective Multilateralism in March 2022. It was tasked with taking stock of the shortcomings in existing global governance agreements, as well as emerging priorities for international cooperation. The Council's starting point was the appeal in the report. Our Common Agenda for new investments in multilateralism that can support the transformation towards more connected, inclusive, and effective cooperative governance arrangements. After a year of public consultations and internal deliberations, the final HLAB report was presented to the Secretary-General in April 2023. UNU-CPR, which acted as the HLAB Secretariat, is now engaged in building understanding, appreciation, and momentum for the report's bold recommendations among different stakeholder groups ahead of the SDG Summit in 2023 and the Future Summit in 2024. The Junior Fellow will be involved in supporting this project.
Description of Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Program Manager of the Effective Multilateralism Project of the High-Level Advisory Council on Effective Multilateralism, the Junior Fellow (intern) will:
- Participate in thematic briefings of Our Common Agenda and other relevant meetings, and produce summary notes for the CPR HLAB team;
- Conduct background research for discussion points and informational notes on relevant HLAB topics;
- Conduct literature reviews on specific topics relevant to HLAB;
- Identify suitable experts and institutions that can partner with UNU-CPR in disseminating HLAB;
- Coordinate meetings, briefings, and workshops related to HLAB;
- Perform administrative tasks and other tasks assigned to you.

- To gain exposure to UNU and UNU-CPR research and related work, and to gain an understanding of the potential solutions and innovations that are driving change throughout the UN system.

Qualifications
Education:
- University studies in one of the following disciplines are required: journalism, law, communication, development, economics, international relations, peace and security, or other relevant subjects.
- To be in the final year of undergraduate studies or enrolled in a graduate program, or to be within the maximum two years of a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program.
Language:
- Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English are required;
- Working with knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
Competences:
The candidate:
- has excellent research, writing, and analytical skills;
- can establish and maintain effective working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds;
- demonstrates resourcefulness and creativity in problem-solving;
- Has advanced computer skills: sound, hands-on experience, knowledge of MS Office applications (familiarity with ICT tools and a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel are desirable);
- has demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and, more specifically, in the work of the United Nations University.
Location:
- This is an in-person position, requiring regular attendance at the UNU-CPR office in New York.
Stipend
Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources, such as universities or other institutions, will receive a stipend from UNU to partially subsidize their basic living costs during the internship period.
The monthly stipend amount will be determined for each position based on prevailing stipend rates. For New York, the rate is US$$ 1,000 per month. The stipend will be paid monthly, and part-time internship agreements are prorated accordingly.
Contract duration: The internship lasts for 4 months (16 weeks).

Estimated end date: December 31, 2023

Evaluation
The assessment of qualified candidates may include a document review and/or a competency-based and reference-based interview.
Acceptance
The successful candidate must sign a Commitment Agreement that will serve as an employment contract between the intern and UNU-CPR for the duration of the internship.
Please note that health insurance is not provided. The successful candidate must present proof of adequate health insurance coverage for the entire duration of the internship.
Notice
The goal of the Internship Program is not to lead to a new job at UNU, but to complement the intern's studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
