Applications are now open for the Malaysia International Stock Exchange (MIS) 2024/2025 . The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative of the Malaysian government to attract bright minds from around the world to pursue postgraduate studies in Malaysia. This scholarship parallels Malaysia's aspiration to emerge as one of the global centres of academic excellence by attracting, motivating and retaining talented human capital from abroad.

Applicants can enrol in any accredited courses, with priority given to courses in the following fields of study:

  • Education
  • Arts and Humanities
  • Social Sciences, Journalism and Information
  • Business, Administration and Law
  • Natural Sciences, Maths and Statistics
  • Information and communication technologies
  • Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction
  • Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Veterinary Science
  • Health and Wellbeing *not including medicine, nursing and pharmacy

Scholarships

  • The tuition fees for the entire sponsorship period will be paid directly to the university upon issue of an invoice to the MOHE by the university.
  • The monthly subsistence allowance of RM 1,500.00 per month will be paid to the fellows each semester, upon submission of the fellows' progress report to the MOHE.

Eligibility

  • The candidate must not be older than 40 or 45 at the time of enrolment for the master's and doctorate levels respectively.
  • Have good academic qualifications:
    • Master's degree candidates: CGPA of 3.00/2nd Class Upper (Honours) or higher at bachelor's level;
    • Doctoral candidates: obtain a CGPA of 3.00 / excellent results at master's level in subjects related to the intended programme of study
  • Have a good command of the English language:
    • IELTS band 6.0 or higher; or
    • A total score of 550 or more on the TOEFL paper-based test (PBT); or
    • Obtained previous degree(s) with English used as the medium of instruction.
  • Submission of a written research proposal* of at least 1,000 words that is relevant to the intended field of study ( *only for research master's and doctoral candidates )

Selection criteria

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

  • Excellent academic and extracurricular performance.
  • The quality of the research proposal and its potential contribution to the advancement of technology and human well-being, with preference given to research topics related to Malaysia.
  • Excellent communication, writing and reading skills in English.

Application

Applicants must complete and provide all the necessary information on the Application Form and have the mandatory documents listed below scanned and saved in PDF format and uploaded to the online application system:

  • Certified copy of passport as proof of nationality (valid for at least 6 months);
  • A notarised copy of the academic transcript(s):
    • Undergraduate transcripts (together with master's transcripts for doctoral candidates);
    • Reflect the record of all courses taken during the previous course(s); and
    • It must be submitted together with a certified official document issued by the applicant's alma mater describing the institution's grading system, if the applicant's transcript does not include information on CGPA, grades or percentile rank.
  • Certified copy of the result of the English proficiency test (IELTS / TOEFL) or official letter from the previous institution declaring English as the medium of instruction used for the degree(s) obtained;
  • Letter of recommendation from two (2) referees;
  • Letter of admission to university in Malaysia (if applicants are currently undertaking postgraduate studies or have been guaranteed admission to university);
  • Curriculum vitae; and
  • Research proposal only for research master's and doctoral candidates
  • **All documents must be in English; if they are in any language other than English, you must provide translated and notarised copies of the documents.
