Applications are now open for the West African Research Association (WARA) Residency Grant 2024 . In the interest of improving transatlantic exchange and collaboration, the West African Research Association, with funding from the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, offers residences for WARA member institutions to host a West African scholar on their campus.
Each residency will last between 4 and 8 weeks and will provide the visiting researcher with opportunities for bibliographical research, guest lectures and/or collaborative work with American colleagues.

Cost
- WARA will pay the selected scholar's round-trip travel costs, as well as a grant of US$ 3,500 to help cover meals and local transport costs.
- Host institutions are encouraged to provide additional support in the form of accommodation, offices, library privileges, laboratory facilities or other support for the duration of the residency.
Eligibility
- Applications can only be made by WARA member institutions for the purpose of bringing a specific scholar to their campus.
- Applications from individual scholarship holders will not be accepted.

Enrolment requirements for the Host Institution:
- Name and contact details of the representative of the WARA host institution
- A 50-80 word summary of the proposed residency, clearly stating the purpose of the residency (indicate the contact person at the host institution)
- Proposal of no more than six (6) double-spaced pages presenting the profile of the visiting researcher, their proposed residency activities, how the residency will contribute to WARA's objectives, the expected impact or outcome of the residency and any support the host institution is prepared to contribute
- Curriculum vitae of the visiting researcher
- Letter of interest from the academic
- Letter of support from a relevant administrator (dean, head of department, etc.) at the host institution
- Proof of citizenship in the form of a copy of the scholar's passport (note: only scholars eligible for non-immigrant visas to the USA will be considered)
