Overview
Position: MEL Research Fellow
Reporting to: Specialist in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
Location: Remote
In the quest for organisational effectiveness, ICARDA has implemented a results-based management (RBM) system, overseen by the ICARDA MEL team. The team, made up of sub-teams from M&E, Knowledge Management, Data Management and Research Software Development, collaborates globally to integrate RBM. In memory of Jake Carampatana, a valued member of the ICARDA MEL team, a new opportunity has arisen for a motivated and competent MEL Research Fellow.
About ICARDA
The International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) is an international non-profit, treaty-based research organisation supported by the CGIA. ICARDA's mission is to tackle global challenges, including climate change, by reducing poverty and improving food, water and nutrition security. The organisation operates in partnership with various entities and is currently undergoing a transformation process as part of the "One CGIAR" reform.
main responsibilities
- Support the formulation and revision of results frameworks at institutional and project level.
- Participating in the development of results monitoring methodologies, including Excel-based models.
- Assist in user-based testing and piloting of new features for the web-based MEL platform.
- Set up projects on the web-based MEL platform.
- Supporting research by developing data collection tools and programming them into mobile data collection platforms.
- Provide training on the use of data collection tools and manage the resulting data.
- To support ICARDA's research programmes in the development and revision of Work Budget Plans and reporting processes.
- Identify, document and share lessons learnt.
- Support evaluation processes initiated by ICARDA or partner/associated projects and research programmes.
- Carry out other tasks relevant to the efficient operation of the monitoring, evaluation and learning function, as assigned by the MEL Specialist.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Competences
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Water/Irrigation Engineering, Pasture Ecology and Conservation, Plant Breeding, Livestock Management, Soil Science or related disciplines.
- Postgraduate course or mini-course in Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Up to 2 years of professional experience in monitoring and evaluation in an organisation similar to ICARDA.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office, and familiarity with web-based platforms.
- Knowledge or experience of working on international development issues, especially in areas related to ICARDA's mandate.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines and manage time well.
- Professional level of attention to detail, precision of work and ability to multitask.
Desirable qualifications and competences
- Master's degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Agricultural Economics, Water/Irrigation Engineering, Pasture Ecology and Conservation, Plant Improvement, Livestock Management, Soil Science or related disciplines.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in monitoring and evaluation in an organisation similar to ICARDA.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in an additional international language other than English.
- Knowledge of the CGIAR, its research portfolio and Centres.
