Applications are now open for the Ian Parry Photojournalism Scholarship 2024 . The Ian Parry Photojournalism Scholarship supports young and emerging photographers in their career in the world of photojournalism. They offer financial support, guidance and ongoing assistance to promote their work. Importantly, the recipient becomes part of a network of previous recipients and an extended family of people who care deeply about the scholarship and believe in the importance of photojournalism.

The donation began more than three decades ago in honour of photojournalist Ian Parry, who died while working for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989 at the age of 24. Photojournalism Scholarship that strives to highlight new talent in photojournalism.

  • Each winner will receive £10,000 for their chosen project.

  • Loan of Canon equipment for 1 year for the IP Grant winner to complete the proposed project.
  • Inclusion in the revision of the Hamburg portfolio.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Canon Transmissions Programme at Visa Pour L'Image in Perpignan.
  • A one-year personal counselling session with a specialist in the sector.
  • An assignment from the founder and CEO of the Legacy of War Foundation, renowned photojournalist Giles Duley.
  • They also offer training in conflict and body protection to the winner of the IP Photojournalism Scholarship.
  • In addition, each year a selection of individuals will have their work highlighted by the industry's judging panel.
  • The honorary Tom Stoddart Award for Excellence can also be awarded annually at the discretion of the judges.

Eligibility

  • Open to young photographers aged 24 or under, or anyone taking a full-time photography course.
  • Participants must send a portfolio of 12 images and a clear proposal for a project they would realise if they received the grant.

Application

Candidates applying for the scholarship must ensure that their application contains the following information:

  • Your name, date of birth, permanent address, personal e-mail address, personal telephone number and, if applicable, faculty, course title and course tutor.
  • A portfolio of 12 photographs, either photo essays or individual shots.
  • A project description providing details of the portfolio you have uploaded to this application
  • A clear project proposal explaining what project you would carry out if you received the grant.
  • Extended captions for each image as a PDF document. 
  • Follow the instructions on the submission form carefully.
