The Arrell Global Food Innovation Awards recognises global excellence in food innovation and community impact.

The Arrell Food Institute recognises world leaders who ensure the future food security of the planet and hopes to inspire new leaders to take bold steps towards change. Scientific excellence and community engagement are needed to overcome the challenges our world will face in feeding 9 billion people and beyond.

Two prizes, each worth at least C$ 100,000, are awarded each year.

The first prize recognises a researcher, or group of researchers, who has an advanced understanding of food production, processing, distribution, consumption, safety and/or human nutrition, with a significant positive impact on society.
with a focus on empowering disadvantaged communities.

Areas for the scientific award include, but are not limited to, food science, crop or livestock genetics, agroecology, pest control, supply chain management, soil health, human nutrition, food processing, food packaging or food safety.

Areas of success for the Community Award include, but are not limited to, household nutrition, urban poverty, Aboriginal food security, traditional food systems, socio-economic policy, poverty eradication or community development.

Eligibility

- Citizens of all countries are eligible for nomination, with no restrictions on gender, race, religion, creed or residence.

Applications can come from private companies, academic institutions, government units, charitable foundations and non-profit organisations. In the case of several applications from the same organisation, only one with the latest date will be accepted.



Price conditions
Arrell food prices are subject to the following conditions: - Each of the two awards worth C$ 125,000, including a grant of US$ 100,000 for the recipients' personal use and up to US$ 25,000 per scholarship for travel and accommodation for the recipients, administered by the Arrell Food Institute at the University of Guelph.

An award-winning citation and a commemorative object will also be presented.

Beneficiaries are expected to take part in a programme of events. In particular, the winners may be invited to attend the next Arrell Food Summit. Other commitments can also be arranged, subject to mutual availability.

In light of the current global pandemic, a determination

about the

travel and accommodation component of the award will be made in the calendar year 2021 Nominations for 2021 will open on 1 December 2020. Nominations close on 28 February 2021.
