5000 EURO available under the Small Grants ProgrammeThe Mérieux Foundation is pleased to announce the Small Grants Programme to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.

Priority will be given to projects whose beneficiaries are mothers and children.

Information on financing

The selected projects will receive financial support of up to 5,000 euros. Two sessions are organised each year to analyse the applications.

Eligible Projects

  • Harmonisation with existing initiatives in the area in question
  • Objectives and activities related to and consistent with the Mérieux Foundation's mission and centred on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis, neglected tropical diseases and other infectious diseases that represent significant public health issues
  • Projects based on an assessment of local needs
  • Projects that propose concrete solutions, beyond education and awareness-raising
  • Projects that are adapted to the target population and are long-term in nature
  • Projects that do not submit a complete file are not eligible
  • Projects that include only research activities, with no impact on the mother or child, are not eligible
  • Projects that take a global approach to health, including physical, social and psychological aspects
  • Projects with a direct impact on the mother and/or child
  • Respect for ethical principles and gender equality in the implementation of the project
  • Strong local involvement: links with local authorities, local associations and beneficiaries

Eligible Countries

The project takes place in one of the following countries:

  • Africa: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Tunisia, Senegal, Togo
  • Americas: Brazil, Haiti
  • Asia: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Iraq, Iran, Laos, Lebanon, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Vietnam.
  • Oceania: Vanuatu

Eligibility criteria

  • Only projects implemented by local organisations will be analysed (projects must be submitted by the local structure responsible for the project).
  • Exclusive public interest mission related to the Mérieux Foundation's mandate: fighting infectious diseases that affect the most vulnerable populations in developing countries, especially mothers and children.
  • Not in bankruptcy or receivership
  • Student associations and individual applications (scholarship projects) are not eligible for this programme.
  • Registered with the country's authorities for at least three years
  • Respect and sign the ethical principles of the Mérieux Foundation Charter: transparency, professionalism, quality, independence, non-discrimination, respect
  • Association status under the 1901 law or recognised as a public utility or equivalent status for electronic sign structures.
