Adolescents across Africa are engaging in HIV research in innovative ways, setting a new standard for meaningful research engagement. Young people have been involved in the design, implementation and dissemination of HIV research findings in sub-Saharan Africa. With the support of the Scientific Alliance for Adolescent HIV Prevention and Treatment (details here),Several networks and platforms for teenagers have sprung up in recent years. In partnership with AHISA and sister organisations, we are offering an open crowdsourcing call. Crowdsourcing allows a group of individuals to try to solve a problem and then share solutions with the public.

Application deadline: 31st January 2021

O he aim of this open crowdsourcing call is to solicit creative ways in which adolescents (14-24 years old) have participated in HIV research studies in Africa. Submissions to this open call will be used to inform the research and help develop a manuscript on the same topic. Format sending Texts (500 words), images (less than 5MB), videos (less than 3 minutes).

Submissions will be allowed by e-mail, WhatsApp and Google Forms. Submissions will be accepted in all languages. At the same time, if the language of submission is neither English nor French, a translated version of the submission will also be required.

The assessment criteria will include:

(1) Innovation - 2 points;

(2) Viability in Africa - 2 points;

(3) Clear description of youth engagement - 2 points;

(4) The extent or degree of youth engagement - 2 points;

(5) Scalability in various African contexts - 2 points.

There are two categories of submissions: 1) the adolescents involved in the engagement and 2) the researchers who organised the engagement. All submissions from teenagers will be judged alongside other submissions from teenagers.

Prize

We're going to create awards for participation and also on the basis of merit. Prizes will only be awarded to teenagers. Prizes for the winners of the adult pitches will be awarded to the selected teenagers associated with the submissions. The total budget for all prices will be of 2500 USD. All finalists will receive at least US$ 250 as a prize and the total value and distribution of the prizes will be decided by the management committee.

The finalists selected will participate in the co-creation of the manuscript as co-authors. Anyone with an average score of 7/10 or higher will receive a recommendation.
