The Role of the ILO in Protecting the Rights of Migrant Workers
The International Labour Organization (ILO) plays a crucial role in protecting the rights of migrant workers, recognising the importance of labour migration for economic and social development. The ILO launched the 2024 Global Media Competition on Labour Migration to highlight the positive contributions of migrant workers and promote responsible media coverage of this issue.
The competition aims to raise awareness of the issues faced by migrant workers, including discrimination, exploitation and precarious working conditions. By encouraging accurate and balanced reporting, the ILO hopes to promote understanding and empathy for the welfare of migrant workers.
The competition is open to journalists, filmmakers and photographers from around the world. Participants are invited to submit stories that explore the challenges and opportunities of labour migration, highlighting the voices of migrant workers themselves. Entries will be judged by a jury of experts in labour migration, journalism and human rights.
The winners of the competition will receive cash prizes and international recognition for their work. In addition, their stories will be widely publicised through the communication channels of the ILO and its partners.
The ILO's 2024 Global Media Competition on Labour Migration is a timely initiative that aims to address gaps in media coverage of labour migration. By promoting responsible and evidence-based reporting, the ILO hopes to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complexities of labour migration and ultimately protect the rights of migrant workers.
