Applications are now open for the Youth Hackathon 2024 of UNESCO's Global Media and Information Literacy Week . The Youth Hackathon, an integral component of AMI Global Week, offers a global stage for youth participation and involvement, with the aim of harnessing innovation and youth-led initiatives to respond to the theme of the Week, in particular the growing role of digital content creators and influencers in the information landscape; and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
The winning teams will be invited to Amman, Jordan, on 30 and 31 October to present their projects during the closing ceremony of the Global MIL Week Feature Conference.Theme: Young people at the forefront - Media and information literacy and the new digital frontiers of information
Tasks and Challenges
Participants will focus on one of the following topics to design innovative solutions and outline their proposals:
- Empowering young people to become active participants in shaping the digital spaces they inhabit, finding ways to promote information of public interest rather than passive consumers of information.
- Explore innovative solutions to meet the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence.
- Explore responsive and effective approaches to media and information literacy education and empowerment through peer education and food education.
- Activating Youth Organisations to be agents of change through collaboration with digital content creators.

Eligibility
- Teams will be made up of 3-6 members (ensuring gender parity, teams can be national, regional or international).
- Members must be between the ages of 18 and 30 and adhere to UNESCO values such as peace, respect for diversity and freedom of expression.
- No previous experience necessary.
Application
Each submission must include a document presenting the solution and a 3-minute video (a creative format is highly recommended). They should include:
- The composition of the team
- Problem statement, objectives, audience and alignment with this year's challenges
- Explanation of the prototype
- Viability
- Sustainability
- Creativity
- Implementation strategies/Business model and evidence of market validation
