Deadline: 01-Sep-2024
The Amphibian Survival Alliance is pleased to announce the Targeted Research and Action Programme for Amphibians.
The Targeted Research and Action Programme for Amphibians is designed to provide financial support for research projects addressing critical conservation needs identified in key studies such as the State of the World’s Amphibians 2023 (SOTWA) and the Amphibian Conservation Action Plan Status Review Project 2023 (ACAP). This programme was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Synchronicity Earth Amphibian Endowment Fund.
Areas
- Grant applications must address at least one of the following three main areas:
- To carry out and support research Comprehensive strategies to understand and mitigate the negative impacts of the amphibian trade.
- To direct conservation efforts toward the most critically threatened amphibian genera and landscapes (TALs), particularly those highlighted as priorities in SOTWA.
- Align yourself with and act upon ACAP's recommendations by funding projects that implement these strategies and address the identified conservation needs.
Financing information
- The maximum grant amount available per project is US$8,333.00. Please ensure that the details of your budget in your project proposal match the requested amount.
Eligible projects
- Projects must address at least one of the priority areas identified in the program objectives, including the amphibian trade, the conservation of threatened species and landscapes, and the implementation of ACAP recommendations.
- Projects should propose research methodologies or conservation strategies that generate a significant impact on conservation. Recognizing the interdisciplinary nature of effective conservation strategies, proposals should demonstrate how the team's diverse expertise will contribute to achieving the project objectives.
- Projects must be feasible, with a clear timeline, budget, and measurable results.
- Projects that have acquired or are actively seeking supplementary funding for interconnected activities will be prioritized. A clear budget breakdown must be provided in the application. If the project currently has or has had support from another organization, they encourage full disclosure in the application form. They respect any privacy and confidentiality agreements applicants may have with their donors. However, the voluntary sharing of this information can help them understand the broader context of your project and secure supplementary funding.
- Projects should include communication and awareness-raising activities and should be justified in the context of how these actions can influence key audiences to mitigate threats and improve prospects for target species.
- Project deadlines should not exceed 18 months.
- Preference may be given to projects that demonstrate collaboration and partnership with local stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and other relevant organizations.
- Projects involving interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement with diverse stakeholders are encouraged.
Geographical Focus
- Projects can be conducted globally, with priority given to regions with high amphibian diversity, endemic species, and/or significant conservation threats.
- Preference may be given to projects that benefit regions or communities that are underrepresented in amphibian conservation efforts.
Election criteria
- Researchers, conservationists, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community organizations are eligible to apply. Research groups are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates must demonstrate a track record of conducting relevant research or implementing conservation projects in the field of amphibian conservation. It is understood that research and conservation are collaborative endeavors; thus, while not all individuals may meet all criteria, the collective knowledge and experience of the project team should cover all necessary areas.
- The project objectives should be realistic, achievable, and aligned with the project budget and schedule.
- Candidates must have the ability to undertake the proposed project and deliver significant results within the specified timeframe. This includes the team's collective competencies in managing and executing the project components.
- All proposals must demonstrate implemented strategies to prevent the spread of disease, including any necessary disease screening protocols.
