Applications are now open for the Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship 2025 The scholarship is awarded annually to up to 30 women pursuing a PhD/Doctorate in Aerospace Applied Science or Aerospace Applied Engineering. It can be used at any university or college that offers accredited postgraduate courses and degrees in these fields.

Globally, women represent approximately 25% of the workforce in the aerospace industry. In an effort to fulfill its mission of ensuring that women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal footing with men, Zonta International offers the Amelia Earhart Fellowship.

Since the program's inception in 1938, Zonta has awarded 1,764 Amelia Earhart Fellowships, totaling over US$11.9 million, to 1,335 women from 79 countries. Fellows have gone on to become astronauts, aerospace engineers, astronomers, professors, geologists, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and even secretaries of the U.S. Air Force.

Financing

  • Up to US$$ 10,000 are awarded to selected scholarship recipients.

Eligibility

  • Women of any nationality who are pursuing a doctoral/PhD degree and who demonstrate a superior academic record conducting applied research in aerospace engineering or space sciences are eligible.
  • It is imperative that students be enrolled in a full-time doctoral/PhD program and have completed at least one year of that program or have received a master's degree in an applied aerospace field at the time of application.
  • Applicants must not complete their doctoral or postdoctoral program before April 2026. Note that postdoctoral research programs are not eligible for the fellowship.
  • Club members and individuals with direct affiliation to Zonta International and employees of Zonta International and the Zonta Foundation for Women, and their family members (ancestors, descendants, adopted children, siblings, nieces or cousins, and those of their spouse or cohabiting partner), are not eligible to apply for the fellowship. Please note that previous Amelia Earhart Fellows are not eligible to apply for a second year's renewal of the fellowship.

The application for the 2025 Amelia Earhart Fellowship must be submitted in full by November 15, 2024, to be considered.
