Applications are now open for the Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award 2024 Now in its 12th edition, the Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award, in partnership with the UK Foreign Press Association (FPA), is open to journalists aged 30 or under.

The Young Journalist Award has given a boost to some brilliant journalists over the years, each demonstrating a rich tapestry of investigative journalism, exposing social issues and holding those in power accountable. The annual competition is organised in partnership with the UK's Foreign Press Association (FPA) and presented at its annual awards event in London.

Benefits

  • The three finalists travel to London to participate in the awards gala evening, along with a number of other potential award winners and prominent figures from the world of journalism.

Eligibility

  • Participants must be 30 years of age or younger on November 25, 2024.
  • Being from countries with a Gross National Income (GNI) per capita of less than $20,000;
  • Applications can be in any language, but must be accompanied by a literal translation into English.

Application

Those who meet the criteria may submit a portfolio of three published works produced in the 12 months prior to the submission deadline, which is midnight (London time) on August 9, 2024. These can be in any medium – print, audio, video, or multimedia.

Applications must be accompanied by a letter from the applicant's current publisher, on company letterhead, verifying that the work in question is the applicant's published work. If the applicant is a freelancer or self-employed, verification may be provided by an editor from one of the publications/websites/broadcasters where the work appeared, or by a journalism academic familiar with the applicant's work.
