Deadline: 1st October 2024
Registration is now open for the Getty Scholars Programme 2025-2026 . The Getty Scholars Programme supports innovative research into art, broadly conceived, and its histories, providing a venue for international scholars to establish collaborations across disciplines and professional practices, while developing new audiences for their work.
During the residency, the scholar group is immersed in a vibrant local community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and housed in an institution committed to preserving, understanding, interpreting and sharing its vast library and collections. Fellows can reside at the Getty Centre or Getty Villa.
Since 1985, the Getty Scholars Programme has welcomed some 1,300 residential scholars from more than fifty countries to conduct research on topics related to the annual theme while residing in Los Angeles. The selected projects span geographic regions and time periods, from ancient to contemporary eras. The Getty receives between 300 and 400 applications a year and awards scholarships to around twenty candidates annually.
Benefits
Getty Centre fellows can live for three to nine months and receive a variety of scholarships, as detailed below:
- Three-month residency: September-December/January-March; Stipend of US$ 21,500
- Six-month residency: September-March/January-June; Stipend of US$ 43,000
- Nine-month residency: September to June; Stipend of US$ 65,000
Beneficiaries also receive a relocation grant of US$ 2,000.
Eligibility
- Candidates for scholarships must have received a doctorate before 1st September 2021. Candidates from associated fields who do not hold a doctorate but have commensurate professional experience will also be considered.
- Candidates who obtained their diploma after 1 September 2021 will have to apply for a post-doctoral scholarship.
- After a six-year waiting period, previous recipients of the Getty Residential Grant in any category may re-apply for another grant in any category for which they are eligible and in which they are interested.
Application
