UNITAR opens applications for its Entrepreneurship and Innovation Training Programme 2024: Promoting Food Security and Economic Development in Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon for young entrepreneurs aged 18 to 45 in Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon. Participants will learn the fundamentals and knowledge of entrepreneurship and develop advanced skills to achieve economic development and combat food insecurity.
Programme phases
- Phase 1 (July to October 2024): Approximately 100 participants will undertake online training on key entrepreneurship topics, such as the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and agribusiness, and acquire the knowledge and skills to identify alternative livelihood opportunities with high potential for business start-ups in their context. Participants will complete individualised online courses, peer discussions, assignments and webinars given by regional and international experts in the field.
- Phase 2 (October to December 2024): Approximately 20 top-ranked participants will undertake training on entrepreneurial tools, techniques and best practices to design solutions to food security challenges. Participants will design and implement innovative and sustainable businesses and projects that address the urgent needs arising from food insecurity, including climate-smart agricultural and aquaculture practices to combat environmental constraints.
- Phase 3 (December 2024 to March 2025): Approximately 10 high-performing companies will develop launch-ready plans for new companies/projects, each with significant potential for job creation and building resilience in the agri-food sector. This phase will include a mentoring and coaching component that will take place online, and a possible intensive workshop will take place online or face-to-face. Details are still to be decided.
Benefits
- The programme will be taught in English and participants will receive a UNITAR certificate of completion if they complete the course and meet all the requirements. The training programme is free of charge and financially supported by the Government and People of Japan.
Eligibility
The programme is open to motivated entrepreneurs from Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon who are/have:
- passionate about succeeding and making a positive impact on their community;
- good knowledge of spoken and written English;
- committed to completing the programme;
- professional experience or interest in agribusiness and food safety or entrepreneurship in general;
- in the 18-45 age group;
- Commitment to a minimum of 2 to 4 hours per week during the programme.
