The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) has announced applications for its Climate Change and Communication Rights Programme to strengthen the public voices and participation of poor, marginalized, excluded and dispossessed people and communities, including people and communities affected by the climate crisis, in communication.
WACC is seeking civil society partners in DAC-listed countries in Africa, Latin America (specifically Bolivia and Venezuela), and the Middle East interested in implementing one-year projects that:
- To empower and enable communities at the local level to use traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) to improve local climate change mitigation strategies; and/or
- To support the development of networks of environmental citizen journalists and/or grassroots reporters involved in local “constructive” journalism, particularly those working to raise broader awareness of environmental issues, local and traditional knowledge, and climate adaptation/mitigation.
Information on financing
- WACC will contribute up to 10,000 euros to the project budget.
- WACC will support only up to three (4) projects in this call.
Benefits
- In addition to the grant for a one-year project, partners may be eligible to receive the following forms of support as part of their partnership with WACC:
- Opportunity to participate in a knowledge-sharing event organized by WACC on the topic of sustainable development and media/communication (subject to travel restrictions);
- Opportunity to receive a grant of 600 euros to raise public awareness about the organization's work;
- Opportunity to work with other WACC partners on a joint initiative to identify and present best practices, participating in a national, regional or international conference (subject to travel restrictions); and/or
- Opportunity to access resource materials on communication rights and the link between communication and sustainable development through the WACC virtual forum for its project partners.
Expected results
- Climate Change and Communication Rights:
- Enhanced capacities of grassroots organizations to document and share good practices related to traditional ecological knowledge;
- Enhanced networks of communication professionals involved in climate mitigation, traditional ecological knowledge, and activities related to natural resource management; and/or
- Greater awareness of the role of traditional ecological knowledge and communication in improving the management of natural resources at the local, regional and global levels.
Who can apply?
- Civil society organizations Organizations legally registered in countries on the CAD list in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East are eligible to seek support. WACC will verify the standing and credibility of applicants. WACC will consider only one application per organization at a time. WACC does not accept project applications from individuals or government institutions. WACC supports organizations of all faiths and of no faith.
What does WACC not support?
- Projects whose main objective is to generate income.
- Emergency appeals for replacement of destroyed equipment.
- Programs that are purely denominational in content and scope.
- Purchases and/or maintenance of land, buildings, offices and vehicles, and recurring expenses such as rent and utilities.
- Institutional operating costs, such as regular staff salaries, endowment fund or revolving fund.
- Equipment for purely administrative office purposes.
- Ongoing projects initiated before a support request.
- Ongoing or new periodical publications
- Cost of transmission time
- Daily allowances (although the direct cost of food and accommodation for project activities is supported)
- Debt repayment, contingency and depreciation
- Proposals from individuals who do not represent an eligible organization.
- Proposals from government entities
- Applications from previous project holders with a poor reporting record.
- Applications previously rejected by WACC
- A total budget of over 30,000 euros.
