Registration is now open for the UNAOC/BMW Group Intercultural Innovation Hub 2024 . At the forefront of addressing intercultural challenges through social innovation, the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group, with the support of Accenture, are pleased to announce the 2024 cycle of the Intercultural Innovation Centre.
Through the Intercultural Innovation Hub (IIH), they continue to connect people and cultures, empower grassroots organisations, and elevate and amplify innovative approaches that contribute to inclusive societies. To this end, they invite applications from grassroots organisations that promote intercultural dialogue and understanding, as well as social inclusion. The selected organisations will benefit from a comprehensive support programme designed to expand the impact of their projects.

The Centre for Intercultural Innovation will select up to 10 projects focused on tackling xenophobia and hate speech; preventing violent extremism; promoting gender equality; using sport, art and culture as tools to drive social change and promote social inclusion; and building inclusive and cohesive societies.
Benefits
Selected recipients will receive:
- Financial support for sustainable growth: Each finalist will receive up to 20,000 US dollars to increase the sustainability of their project and accelerate the impact of their work.
- Year-long training programme: The selected beneficiaries will also benefit from a series of year-long training workshops, focused support and personalised mentoring provided by UNAOC and the BMW Group, with the support of Accenture.
- Access to and membership of a global leadership platform: Beneficiaries will have the opportunity to broaden their spheres of influence, collaborate with other agents of change and participate in regional and international events, becoming part of a global leadership network.
Eligibility
Organisations submitting a project to the competition must meet each and every one of the following criteria in order to be considered eligible:
- Organisations must be registered as non-profit organisations, such as non-governmental organisations, charities, educational and research institutions, trade unions, indigenous groups, religious organisations, professional associations, foundations and local or municipal branches of government.
- Applicant organisations must have been operational for at least 2 years before March 2024; on a project funding and implementation basis (i.e. the organisation must be registered as a non-profit organisation in its country of operation by March 2022 or earlier).
- Applicant organisations must run a project focused on promoting intercultural dialogue and fostering diverse and inclusive societies, and be willing to expand their range of action. Examples include projects in the fields of promoting gender equality, preventing xenophobia, violent extremism and hate speech, promoting the use of sport, art and culture as tools to drive social change and promote social inclusion.
- The applicant organisation must be willing to broaden the scope of the project with UNAOC, BMW Group and Accenture.
- Organisations that have previously received support from the UNAOC are not eligible to apply for the Intercultural Innovation Centre.
- Projects that have been submitted to previous editions of the Intercultural Innovation Hub and have not been selected are eligible and encouraged to apply again. However, applicant organisations must not have participated in previous editions of the UNAOC Marketplace of Ideas or the BMW Group Awards.

The selected projects will be evaluated according to a comprehensive set of criteria. These criteria include three main categories:
The project
- Relevance - is appropriate for the target audience and in the local context where it is implemented, taking into account the need for the project, the challenges posed by Covid-19 and which SDG it is addressing.
- Quality - carries out an in-depth analysis of the problems/issues and defines a consistent intervention strategy.
- Clarity - defines clear objectives and establishes a logical link between activities, products and results.
- Innovation - goes beyond the typical approaches and excels in the use of original and innovative methods (social networks, arts, pedagogical approach, innovative training, etc.).
- Measurability - the impact of the project is measurable (i.e. number of beneficiaries, attitude change surveys, assessment of behavioural changes, clear political changes, etc.)
- Sustainability - demonstrates the ability to be sustainable in the medium and long term.
- Replicability - has the ability to be replicated and scaled up in different environments. This is a key evaluation criterion.
The organisation
- Organisational structure - is capable of achieving the objectives defined in the project.
- Intercultural commitment - demonstrated interest and commitment to promoting diverse and inclusive societies (e.g. previous reports, reference letters, etc.).
- Work plan and budget - set a realistic budget to replicate or expand the project.
- Transparency - has made genuine and demonstrable efforts to adopt a policy of transparency.
- Equality - adopted equality and diversity policies reflected in its employees, members and activities.
