Applications are now open for the BBC News Komla Dumor Awards 2024 The BBC News Komla Dumor Award will be given to a remarkable individual living and working in Africa who combines strong journalistic skills, aerial talent and an exceptional talent for telling African stories with the ambition and potential to become a future star.
The winner of the BBC World News Komla Dumor Prize will receive a unique training and development opportunity at the BBC in London, starting in early September 2024 and lasting three months. Working with teams from across BBC News, the winner will produce an African story for the BBC and have their story and voice shared across the continent and the world. They will be supported by a high-level BBC mentor and participate in courses taught by the BBC's world-class training department, the BBC Academy.

Komla Dumor was an African journalist. Her passion was telling African stories to the world with honesty and integrity. It's a legacy the BBC wants to continue.
Benefits
- The BBC will pay for the winner's flights to and from the UK and their visa. They will also arrange and pay for the winner's accommodation in London during their stay. The winner will receive a stipend of £7,000 for the three months in London (taxes and deductions will be made as appropriate).

- You must currently be living and working as a journalist in Africa.
- Excellent journalism skills, including in digital and social media.
- Experienced streaming is preferable.
- An excellent broadcasting personality, voice, and strong presentation skills with the ability to perform both on the microphone and in front of the camera with talent.
- The ability to identify and present a strong and original idea for an African story, aligned with BBC editorial guidelines.
- Broad and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the African continent, including politics, business, culture, history, and sports.
- Fluency in English as a first language or equivalent.
Application
- You must provide a resume (maximum two pages).
- You must possess, or be able to obtain by March 31, 2024, a passport valid until at least January 31, 2025.
- You must not be a current or former BBC employee.
- If successful, your employer should be willing to release you for three months starting in September 2024 so that you can travel independently to secure your job in London.
- The visa requires that you hold a degree or be studying to obtain a degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree in the United Kingdom from a recognized university.
- References, proof of employment, birth certificate, passport, appropriate UK visa, and proof of English proficiency will be required from shortlisted candidates.
