Applications are now open for the Action for Nature International Young Eco-Hero Awards 2024 . Action For Nature (AFN), a non-profit organisation, has created the International Young Eco-Hero Awards to recognise and reward successful individual environmental initiatives by young people aged between 8 and 16.
AFN encourages young people around the world to carry out individual environmental action projects. They believe that young people can have a positive impact on the environment and are vital to changing the way we live on our planet.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be aged between 8 and 16 and no older than 16 on 28 February 2024.

- The project concerns environmental health, defence, research or protection of the natural world.
- The project is action-based and self-initiated, and is not assigned by a teacher or other adult.
- The project must be at least 6 months long and close to completion or completed within the last year.
- If the project is an invention, some tests must be completed before application.
- Science Fair and Scout Badge projects will only be considered if they include environmental action, educational outreach to third parties or extended studies beyond the Science Fair and Scout Badges.
- They do not accept (a) projects related to domestic or confined animals, (b) compositions or reports.
- Previous winners, immediate relatives of AFN board members, members of the active reading panel or judges may not apply.
Judging Criteria
Preference is given to projects that are more than 2 years old and/or ongoing.
Applications will be judged according to various criteria, including but not limited to:
- originality
- difficulty
- organisation
- time dedicated to the project
- influencing/educating others
- use of external resources (e.g. library, experts, media, community leaders)
- degree of success in achieving goals
- the impact on the environment
