Applications are now open for the Swiss Re Foundation Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award 2024 The Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award will support social entrepreneurs working on a hybrid delivery model to improve access to quality primary healthcare for low-income people in low- and middle-income countries.

The Digital Connected Care Coalition and the UBS Optimus Foundation are joining forces to support social entrepreneurs in the healthcare sector through the Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award, sharing their experience, networking, solutions, and funding with these new partners.

Benefits

  • A total donation of US$700,000 will be awarded to the three finalists. This amount is divided between the winning initiative (which can receive up to US$350,000) and the two runners-up, and is paid in installments over two years.
  • The finalist who wins the People's Choice Award, determined by online public voting, will be invited to connect with potential investors at an event organized by the Sankalp Forum, one of the world's largest platforms for impact investing.
  • Personalized non-financial support for the three finalists, for example:
    • Technical advice provided by employees of Swiss Re and participating DCCC organizations (such as AXA, PharmAccess and Philips).
    • Training, consulting, data collection and/or analysis to improve the business operations and strategies of LeFil Consulting representatives and others.
  • Potential eligibility for monitoring funding from the UBS Optimus Foundation.
  • Access to a network of like-minded peers with whom to share knowledge or experiences and from whom to learn about topics relevant to the initiative.

  • Candidates must demonstrate high levels of social impact and, ideally, be able to reliably measure it (e.g., improved health indicators, reduction in current expenses).
  • Low-income populations should constitute at least 30% of the candidates' customer base. Candidates must have a deep understanding of the specific circumstances of the people – both women and men – they serve. Priority will be given to companies that are gender-inclusive, i.e., that strive to reduce gender inequalities.
  • Applicants must operate in countries defined as low-income or lower-middle-income by the World Bank.
  • Applicants must operate on a market-based basis. While the venture may rely on subsidized funding, it must demonstrate the ability to grow and scale through the revenue generated.
  • Applicants must have been formally established by 2021, serve at least 20,000 people, and have the potential to reach at least 100,000 people in the next two years.
  • Candidates must have a solid management team where responsibilities are well-defined and distributed. They must also have a diverse and well-structured workforce. Preference will be given to ventures with at least one female founder, or at least 30% women on the management team.
  • Applicants must comply with the legal framework of the country or countries in which they operate and be permitted to receive funding from a Swiss non-governmental organization, such as the Swiss Re Foundation.
