Applications are now open for the Vienna BioCenter Summer School 2024 The Biocenter Vienna Summer School offers a unique opportunity for approximately 20 undergraduate students to work alongside leading researchers in a dynamic scientific environment.

The program aims to attract talented students from around the world, creating a vibrant and diverse atmosphere. It is the perfect preparation for students interested in pursuing postgraduate studies in the life sciences. The program begins on the last Friday of June and ends on the last Friday of August (or August 31st) each year.

Programme components

Research Project: Each fellow will be assigned a faculty member with whom they will work closely. The research project will focus on a current topic within the assigned laboratory. Supported by a laboratory member, the fellow will conduct experiments, analyze data, generate ideas, and discuss their results. In addition to hands-on laboratory work, the fellow will also participate in laboratory meetings, journal clubs, and other activities.
Talents for the Future Program: The program 'Talents for the Future'This is a special initiative of the BioCenter Vienna Summer School and will provide a research opportunity in biology to highly motivated and talented students, regardless of their socioeconomic background. Applications are especially encouraged from talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who would benefit most from such an opportunity, which could be truly career-friendly.'

Open to students (BA Hons, Master, MSc) from around the world who are undergraduate/master's students and have completed at least two years of university study in a field related to Life Sciences (Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemistry, etc.);
3 months of research experience;
Good academic record;
High level of English;
Proof of enrollment in a university program for the current academic year and for the following year (if possible);
Important information for MD candidates MDs can only apply if they have completed 3-4 years of study and have relevant research experience. They must also intend to pursue a doctorate in a life sciences-related subject after completing their current studies.
The following studies will NOT be considered: Veterinary medicine, medical engineering, agriculture, pharmacy, zoology, food or nutritional sciences, and any other courses that do not include laboratory training or are not related to molecular and cellular biology.

Application

Interested students should complete the online application form. When applying, candidates will be asked to specify the names of three lab heads in their order of preference. While they cannot guarantee that a candidate will be assigned to one of these labs, the organizers will make every effort to do so. You will also be asked to detail your educational and research experience.
