Applications are now open for the DRC 2023-2024 Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Programme. The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) gives women entrepreneurs the knowledge, networks and access they need to launch and scale successful businesses.
AWE uses a hybrid model that combines the DreamBuilder online platform (developed through a partnership between Arizona State University's Thunderbird School of Global Management and global copper mining company Freeport-McMoRan) with mentoring and classroom facilitation. Through AWE, participants learn key business skills and then meet in class to discuss the material with experienced implementers, local mentors and US Exchange alumni. Partnerships with local NGOs, universities and chambers of commerce offer women the opportunity to broaden their newly learnt business skills and network with other entrepreneurs through fast-track mentoring and entrepreneurship fairs.

- Provide resources for women to engage in US-style online education with facilitation and localisation guided by local women business leaders.
- Promote networks that support participants' access to peer-to-peer mentoring, business partners and scaling opportunities with companies in the region and the United States.
- Provide access to a wide range of opportunities tailored to women's economic empowerment to amplify the effects of participation.
Benefits
- Successful participants will have access to seed capital (specifically for the winners of the business plan competition), as well as additional training opportunities at Harvard Business School in the United States and South Africa.
Eligibility
- Candidates must be women entrepreneurs.
- The application form must be completed in English.
- Candidates must speak/read English (CV is in English).
- Applicants must be between 25 and 45 years old.
