The call for applications for Epidemic Science Leadership & Innovation Networks 2024 The call for applications is now open. This invitation will foster a vibrant ecosystem of Epidemic Science Leadership and Innovation Networks (EPSILONs) across Africa. Each EPSILON will consist of three to eight organizations in a “hub and spoke” consortium. Each consortium will establish a network of research excellence in a thematic area relevant to research, preparedness, and response in epidemic and pandemic sciences.
These networks will nurture and promote world-class research and innovation in epidemic and pandemic sciences in Africa, building a critical mass of experts across all health sectors on the continent to address current health challenges while strengthening capacities to respond to future infectious disease health threats. They will contribute to the development of communities of practice that can be leveraged for long-term collaboration and during future outbreaks to address urgent research and policy needs.

- Applicants must prepare a base budget of up to US$$ 4 million over five to six years, in addition to specific supplementary elements as detailed in the call guidelines. Successful consortia are expected to attract additional funding from other sources over the duration of the program.
Eligibility
- Lead applicants may only lead one application, but they may be co-applicants in multiple applications.
- Lead candidates must be based at an eligible organization and meet the following conditions:
- To hold an academic or research position;
- To have a salary, or a guaranteed salary, during the benefit period, or to be obligated by the employment contract to have a salary.
